애니멀 팩 (Animal Pack vol.1)

디바이스 형태의 디지털 극장, 그 속에 펼쳐지는 세계, 이를 재현한 회화로 구성되어 있다. 세계는 하나의 극장으로서 기능한다. 1인칭의 시점으로 원하는 곳을 자유롭게 누빌 수 있지만, 관찰하는 것 외에는 딱히 할 일도 없고 뚜렷한 목적도 없다. 왜 존재하는지 이유를 알 수 없지만 하나의 현상으로서 이곳에서 목도하는 기이함과 쓸고퀄이 주는 상실감이 있다. 이것은 무목적성이라는 해방감을 주면서 예술로 귀결되거나, 누군가에게는 어이없는 몰입감을 제공하며 엔터테인먼트로 귀결된다. 이 세계에 대한 관찰과 그로 얻은 인상은 회화라는 실재적 형태로 재현된다. 일종의 세계관(universe)을 담아낸 이 회화는 다시 가상의 세계를 가리키며 그것의 원전(origin)이라 말한다. 일반적으로 세계관 구축은 거대하고, 완결된 서사-인물(들)을 한데로 모아 그 세계를 이해하고자 하는 사유 행위이기도 하지만 애니멀 팩에서는 마치 그런 척은 하면서, 일단 존재하고 본다. 그림을 보며 우연한 서사의 발현은 기대할 수 있겠으나 큰 이해를 제공하지는 않는다. 참고하시길.

It consists of a digital theater in the form of a device, a world that unfolds within it, and a painting that represents it. The world functions as a theater. From a first-person perspective, you are free to go wherever you want, but there is nothing to do except observe and no clear purpose. You don’t know why it exists, but as a phenomenon, there is a sense of loss that comes from the strangeness and weirdness that you witness here. This translates into art as it provides a liberating sense of purposelessness, or for some, entertainment as it provides a sense of absurd immersion. Observations of the world and the impressions they create are reproduced in the tangible form of paintings. This painting, which is a kind of universe, points back to the fictional world and says it is the origin. While building Weltanschauung is usually a grandeur job and is an act of thought that attempts to make sense of a world by bringing together a complete narrative-character(s), Animal Pack only pretends to be, or rather it priotizes its presence. You can expect some accidental narrative manifestations in the paintings, but they don’t provide much understanding.

서울익스프레스(전유진, 홍민기) 음악, 영상의 요소를 미술이라는 영역에 부차적인 존재로 차용하는 것이 아니라, 서로의 기법과 언어를 적극적으로 가져와서 조형적 요소와 긴밀하게 결합하고 총체적인 이미지를 만드는 것에 주목한다. 또한 다양한 기술과 직접 개발한 장치를 작품에 활용하며, 청각적 요소를 시각적 요소만큼이나 중요한 위치에 놓는다. 2016년 발표한 ‘언랭귀지드 서울’은 합창이라는 극적인 요소를 부각시켜 현대 도시가 지닌 다면적이고 복합적인 모습을 직관적 이미지로 표현하였다. 2017년 ‘패치워크’ 작업을 통해 개인의 사적인 경험을 사회적 맥락에 위치시킴으로써 사회를 거시적 관점이 아닌 미시적인 행위와 과정의 결과물로 보여주고자 했다. http://seoulexpress.kr/

Seoul Express is an artist duo, Minki Hong and Youjin Jeon, collaborating since 2015. They create an integrated image by combining various media like sound, music, moving image, movement, physical materials and using new media technologies. Their works have been presented in many forms such as installation, performance, film, 2D image and music. They try not to limit their work to the specific genre and they are interested in exploring each media’s properties and situating it out of its properties. Music beyond the temporal scale, non-static object transcending spatial dimension and performance with non-linear narrative can be their interests. They keep experimenting a variety of media composition and are concerned with juxtapositions of the tangible and intangible.
